APPLY FOR HOUSING

A guide to the application process

How to apply for housing?

▶ ONLINE

  1. Log on to your myGov account.

  2. Go to Services and then Housing Vic online services.

  3. Then select Victorian Housing Register Application.

▶ PAPER APPLICATION

You can also download the Application and complete the paper version.

If you do not have access to a computer, you can attend a Department of Families Fairness and Housing (DFFH) office and fill out the form and the staff will be able to assist with any queries. Alternatively, you can access computers with free Wi-Fi connection in any public library. They also have affordable printing costs.

Documents you need to provide:

  • Proof of Identity

  • Residency Status

  • Proof of Income

DFFH will process your application to ensure you are eligible. They will advise you in writing if you have been approved, and if so, you will be issued an application number. Remember to keep a record of this number.

Vacancy Management

To access vacancies with Community Housing agencies, including Cooperative Housing, you must have an active application on the VHR and an Application number.  When a vacancy becomes available the agency will access the VHR waitlist to find a suitable applicant to match the vacant property and may contact people to get more details to ensure the property will meet their needs.

There will then be a renter selection process that follows and in the case of Cooperatives there is a further process to become an active member of the cooperative. For more information on active membership, please contact the office, on 03 9391 9267 or by email wrhc@williamstownhousingcoop.org.au
